‘Chroma keying’ is a special effects / post production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on color hues. Esther Janssen is a painter without paint. For each new series of paintings she developes a new way of ‘painting’. So there are for example paper paintings or sewn paintings. The last ones are my favourite. Sewn by hand, stitch by stitch, she creates surrealistic anguished images of clean and perfect residential districts. Getting a 3D effect in a 2D image by stuffing parts of the images is really beautiful. A perfect sense for colors, incredible eye for detail and a crazy heap of patience…. Inspiring!
If you get the chance, go and have a look.
